The World Awaits A Miracle
Sixth Day of Advent. Friday, December 5, 2025
Blind men healed by Jesus.
As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they replied.
Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith, let it be done to you,” and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region. Matthew 9:27-31
Dear friends,
There is nothing random about the healings of Jesus. He never heals without purpose. They always address specific needs. For each gospel writer, miracles serve a bigger purpose as well. For Matthew, miracles demonstrate Jesus’ authority as Messiah, his compassion for others, and the contrast between those with spiritual insight and those who are spiritually blind.
This passage contains a lot for us, so we outlined it by suggesting the following:
The blind men’s cry—"Have mercy on us, Son of David!”— reminds us of the urgency needed when seeking Jesus.
Their persistence, pursuing Jesus even indoors, challenges our halfhearted prayers. We must come to Christ, honestly desperate, believing He wants to give us more than a complacent life with the way things are.
Their physical blindness reminds us to open our eyes to his truth, kingdom, and presence. Consider how Jesus is asking us, "Do you believe I can do this?” - as a test of our reliance on his power, even in hopeless times.
Their healing, "according to your faith," tells us that our experience relies on fully trusting him and approaching with confidence that he will address our needs.
Last, but not least, despite Jesus’ stern warning not to tell anyone, it reminds us of how powerful gratitude and joy can be in our lives. When Christ changes us, it inevitably affects how we live, what we talk about, and our witness in a world desperate for good news. Sharing about Christ and what He has done for us is never a burden and always creates a ripple effect on others, whether we see it or not.
The world awaits a miracle. In Christ, the blind, all of us, gain sight. He is the Light of the World.
Watching and waiting,
